Ugra - terrible, cruel, fierce, one of the names of the god Shiva. The river of the same name, flowing near Nikola-Lenivets (the venue of the Signal music festival), is 400 km long and connects the Smolensk and Kaluga regions. It nourishes forests and fauna with its waters for many years. During the summer-autumn low-water period, the water level drops and the underwater treasures of the Ugra River, which keep the memory of centuries, come to light. The power of the caches I have found is revealed one day in our magical garden. Sounds from the past, like a magical amulet, protect everyone who hears them. Our peace is guarded by angels and nothing else is fearful. You will hear an improvisational set made on noise analog synthesizers, including self-made devices: cracklebox and static radiation detector.

For this performance, the artist created five sculptures made of metal and epoxy resin. Parts of craft and technical tools were found at a local flea market. Remains of a whole body that were difficult to identify due to erosion and their strange shape. One could only guess what their character referred to. Maria immersed the objects in plastic so that they appeared to float on the surface of the water. A kind of fictional story embodied through the installation: drowned ancient objects became part of the formidable river, finding them and interacting with their aura, extracting sounds using noise analog homemade synthesizers.

The Ugra River has a rather strong current in the place where the performance took place. The bottom of the river is hollow and stony, as if metal could really be found there. The artist made her first swim on one of the days of the festival and felt afraid of drowning and being carried away by the swift current. Sharp rocks under her feet and seaweed called “witches' hair” served as anchors. The clear, clear water responded in the form of clear epoxy.  The swim felt like a cleansing and a small victory over the fear of death, much like the menacing sounds of the noises on the bayside that day.
